Next stop: the revered Grotto of Saint John, where John the Apostle wrote the Book of Revelations.
A guided tour of the most spectacular of all Minoan palaces, Knossos is an enormous site, measuring a massive 20,000 square meters. This is the place that the Minotaur (part man/part bull) was slain by Theseus in a labyrinth thought to surround these buildings.
We drive deep into the beautiful Cretan countryside, through the villages of Episkopi and Sgourokefali, until we arrive at Archanes. After our walk through the village we'll return to the breathtaking country roads for our drive to the traditional village of Stironas. Enjoy the fresh mountain air as you take in the majestic views – 550 meters above sea level. Wine has been made in Crete since the Minoans and now we'll have a chance to literally put our lips to the deep cup of traditional Cretan winemaking, when we visit a raki distiller and sample traditional raki - direct from the barrels in his cellar! Learn about wine production, then enjoy Cretan meze with pure Cretan olive oil & other local delicacies, while traditional Cretan dancers perform.
